Computer Science News

11th Annual Picnic on Wednesday, October 14th, from 5:00 - 6:30PM.

A big warm howdy and welcome back to the a new semester for all our mathematics, physics, and computer science majors!

All students majoring in mathematics, physics, or computer science are invited to our 11th annual Fall .....  picnic...... thing..... well, it's a long story, ask any department faculty about why we call it a "picnic".

What is it?  It's an opportunity to get our majors from the three programs together with each other and the department faculty and get to know each other a little better in a setting outside of the academic classroom (and maybe have some fun with some activities planned this year that will be new!), plus have some pizza to boot.  So...  come on over anytime between 5:00 and 6:30pm next Wednesday, October 14, to Ballroom A in the new Campus Center (top floor), pull up a chair and sit a spell.  Got science seminar or other classes until 5?  No problem, come as soon as you can after 5, we'll keep the light on for you.  And if you want a shot at winning the door prize, check out the attached flyer and submit your entry by email or bring it with you Wednesday..

Hope to see you all there!

Michael Frantz
Chair, Mathematics/Physics/Computer Science Department

P.S. If you know of somebody who is not yet majoring in one of these three areas, but is interested in finding out more, invite them to come along with you!

Recycling Fair on Thursday October 15, 2009 from 12-2PM.

This is the week of our recycling fair, to be held on Thursday the 15th from 12-2pm, rain or shine!

Thanks to those who signed up to help out, and to those of you who didn't, there is still time for you to be a part of this important event:

If you have any available time from 11am to 3pm on Thursday please feel free to come by and help us raise awareness about recycling.

If you have any eyeglasses, ink cartridges, printers, computers, cell phones, batteries, telephones, shoes, clothes, plastic bags or boxes of junk sitting around your house or dorm, bring it by and unload!

If you have any friends, family or coworkers that you can forward this email to, please do so. Also look for our event invite on Facebook.

Also, this saturday is the beach clean-up with HEAL THE BAY at Playa Del Rey. We are meeting at The Rock at 8:45 to carpool over there. Please come and bring a friend.

Have a great week and see you all Thursday!
