What academic majors are offered at La Verne?
The University of La Verne offers more than 70 majors and
more than 35 minors.
When do I need to declare my major?
You need to declare your major by the end of your sophomore
year.
Is there a place where I can go if I need tutoring?
For students who need additional academic assistance,
the Learning Enhancement Center,LEC, is a great resource. Peer tutors are
available to assist students with their school work in all subject areas and
the LEC is open five days a week and select weekends with some weekend hours
available.
How accessible are the professors at La Verne?
Professors are readily available to address student
questions and concerns. Whether students need help with registration or
coursework, professors are actively involved and invested in each student's
individual success.
Does La Verne offer study abroad?
Yes, La Verne students can study abroad. Where you go and what you study will depend on
your areas of interest. Our Study Abroad
Office will help you find a program that is right for you. Your financial aid carries over if you choose
to study abroad.
What are the operating hours for the Office of Admission?
The office is open from 8 a.m.- 5 p.m., Monday-Friday and on select Saturdays in the spring. Information sessions are held
Monday-Friday at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. with a campus tour immediately

The University of La Verne is on rolling admission. Applications received after the priority deadlines will be accepted as space permits.
Can I apply online?
Yes. La Verne is a member school of the Common
Application.
What are the application components?

Does La Verne conduct interviews?
La Verne does not require interviews for
admission. However, we invite applicants to submit a video online via MYCOLLEGEi.
What are the freshmen admission course requirements?
We require four years of English, three years of social
studies, three years of math (including Algebra II), and two years of science (1 year of lab science).
Is there a foreign language requirement to be admitted to
La Verne?
No. There is no foreign language requirement to be
admitted to La Verne. However, some majors do have a foreign language
requirement. The requirement can be met
by taking courses at La Verne or by testing out through a placement exam.

How much is tuition?
The tuition for the 2010-2011 academic year for full-time students is $29,800. Room and board is approximately $11,000.
Actual cost may vary depending on room occupancy and meal plan. There is no difference between in-state and
out-of-state tuition.
Do official test scores need to be submitted if they have
been included on the Common Application?
Yes, test scores are only considered official if they are submitted via a score
report or if they are on an official high school transcript.
Is there a preference for the SAT or ACT?
No, La Verne has no preference as to which test you take.
What happens when someone takes the SAT/ACT more than
once? Which score is counted?
La Verne will take the highest score received from each sitting.
Does La Verne require the SAT II subject tests?
No. They are not required for admission, however, we encourage
applicants who have taken the exams to submit those scores.
When are decision letters mailed?
Once the application is complete, a decision is made
within three weeks.
Can more than one letter of recommendation be submitted?
Yes, additional letters of recommendation may be sent. However, at least one must come from a
academic source.
Are there scholarships available?
Yes, La Verne offers merit scholarships. Students are
required to complete a FAFSA form and the GPA verification form (California
residents only) to secure maximum financial aid eligibility. There is also a Performance Scholarship which
is a renewable full-tuition scholarship.
Does La Verne offer application fee waivers?
We accept fee waivers from the College Board and
the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC). Please see your guidance or college counselor about obtaining one.
Can extra information be sent to be considered with my
application?
Yes. Please keep in mind, however, that your application is kept in a file, so please do not
send anything that could not easily fit within it.
Do all application materials need to be mailed in
together?
No, components of the application can be submitted as they
are completed. However, an application will
not be reviewed until all required information has been submitted.
What sports are offered at La Verne?
The University of La Verne invites students to
participate in everything from basketball to track and field. We are a NCAA
Division III athletic program competing in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC). La Verne offers a total
of 18 varsity sports, state-of-the-art training facilities, and a roster of
dedicated coaches.
How can I be part of an athletic team?
Students who would like to participate on a sports team
must maintain at least a 2.0 grade point average and be in good standing with
the Registrar's Office.
Does La Verne have athletic scholarships?
We participate in NCAA Division III athletics and are not
eligible to award athletic scholarships.
How do I contact a coach?

the coaches will be in contact with you.
Where is La Verne located?
The city of La Verne is approximately 35 miles east of
downtown Los Angeles and 25 miles north of Orange County. La Verne offers easy access to many Southern
California attractions including Hollywood, the beaches, the mountains and Disneyland.
How big is the campus?
The University of La Verne is on 38 acres of land
nestled at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains. The campus is very easy to
navigate with most buildings a mere 10 minute walk away.
How many traditional undergraduate students attend La
Verne?
There are approximately 1,685 students.
What is the average class size?
The typical class size is 16 students; 71% of La
Verne classes have less than 20 students.
Is there parking available on campus?
Parking is available on campus for students that purchase
a parking permit. There is also street parking that is walking distance from campus.
What organizations are on campus?
There are more than 50 student clubs and organizations on campus. Some are sponsored by academic departments and others are completely run by students. We encourage our students to form new organizations that meet their interests and thus new clubs are always forming.
How can I get involved on campus?
The University of La Verne offers an endless list of
ways for students to get involved. The University has Greek sororities
and fraternities, clubs organized around specific majors, recreational
activities, and a variety of cultural organizations. During the annual La
Verne Club Fair, students can find out more about individual organizations
and sign up for the ones that suit their interests.
When is recruitment for the Greek organizations?
Recruitment occurs in the Fall semester. There are occasionally recruitment events
during the Spring semester as well.
Do your Greek organizations practice hazing?
Hazing is strictly prohibited at the University of La
Verne. If hazing activities occur, the offending organization risks being
expelled from campus.
How do I apply for housing?
You will first need to pay your enrollment deposit before
you can apply for housing. Instructions
can be found here on the Web site for the Department of Housing & Residential
Life.
What sort of housing options are there on campus?
We have a variety of housing options available to our
students.
What is it like to live on campus?
At La Verne, we understand that leaving home can be a big
adjustment. Our intellectually stimulating, ethnically diverse residence halls
are designed to help ease the transition. With a full slate of activities that
appeal to every interest, the La Verne community strives to make newcomers
feel welcome, expose them to new interests and offer them unlimited ways to get
involved on campus.
What percentage of students lives on campus?
Approximately 40% of our student body lives on campus.
I want to room with a friend who will also be attending
the University of La Verne. Is that
possible?
Yes, you and your friend will both need to request to
live with each other in order to be roommates.
What if I don't get along with my roommate?
Resident Assistants are available to help resolve
problems that occur within the residence halls. Concerns will be carefully
evaluated and appropriate action will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
From grilled-to-order broiler specials at the International Exhibition station to hand tossed pizza specialties, Davenport Dining Hall offers a wide range of nutritious and delicious options for students to enjoy. In addition to breakfast, lunch and dinner, Davenport offers an all-day, self-serve salad bar that includes fresh fruit, soup and condiments. There is also a selection of sandwiches, cereal, pastries and desserts available. In addition students can also choose to eat at Barbara’s place which features a grill, ready-made items and Starbucks coffee.
How safe are the residence halls?
Campus Safety officers frequently visit each of La Verne's residence halls. Resident Assistants are also on hand at all times to
keep order on the floors and be the eyes and ears of each community.
Is there an application fee?
Yes, there is an application fee of $50. This must
be paid by U.S. International Money Order.
Do I need to submit my previous academic records?
Yes, official copies of all academic records from secondary
schools and colleges (if any) are required. These records must show dates
of attendance, courses taken and grades received. These records must be
submitted with a certified English translation (for students applying from
non-English speaking countries). Students transferring from a
post-secondary institution must submit copies of transcripts to the World
Education Service (WES) for an official evaluation of transferable credit (www.wes.org), or other accredited National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES).
Do I need to display English proficiency in order to
attend La Verne?
Applicants must establish minimum proficiency in English by submitting one of the following:
1. A minimum score of 61iBT/500pb/173cb on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
2. A minimum score of 480 on the critical reading section of the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).
3. A minimum score of 5.0 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
4. Completion of the equivalent of English 110 (English composition) and 28 transferable semester units with a grade of C or better.
5. Successful completion of ELS Language Centers level 112.
Are international students eligible for state or federal
financial aid?
International students are only eligible for
international scholarships for academic merit in the amount of $5000.
Applicants who are admissible and meet one of three
criteria:
1. Score of 79 or better on the Internet based TOEFL (213cb/550pb);
2. Score of 6.5 or better on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS);
3. Pass ELS level 112.
Are there additional requirements?
All international students must provide evidence of
ability to pay for their education. A confidential financial statement is
required prior to admission, accompanied by a certified bank statement or
affidavit of support indicating sufficient funds for study. One letter of
recommendation from school officials where the applicant most recently attended
and a copy of a passport are also needed. Other requirements may apply
depending upon country of origin. An I-20 will be issued upon full
admission. The University of La Verne established its policies in
accordance with the United States Immigration regulations.
How safe is the campus?
The campus is very safe. In fact the police and fire station for the City of La Verne is located
right across the street from campus. Campus Safety also regularly patrols campus.
What technology is available on campus?
The Office of Information Technology maintains six open computer labs on campus that are available 16 hours a day, seven days a week (excluding holidays). There are 16-24 computers in each of the six labs.These computers are upgraded on a three-year life cycle; ensuring students have access to current technology. Four of these labs provide PCs, one provides Macs (ACB lab), and the LEC lab provides both PCs and Macs. Each lab has a variety of software applications available (such as Microsoft Office), and one or more laser printers are available for student use on a pay-for-print basis.
Can I connect to the Internet with my laptop?
Yes. Students with laptops can connect to the Internet
with either plug-in connections or wireless cards. The Wilson Library has
approximately 30 network jacks located in study rooms, and wireless Internet
access is available throughout the library and on its outside patio. Students
must register their laptops at the library's front desk to obtain wireless
access.
Are the residence halls wired for Internet access?
Yes. All residence halls provide Internet access for each
student. The Oaks residence halls have hard-wired connection points, while
StuHan and Brandt halls are fully wireless.
Can I get help with my personal technology on campus?
Limited technical support for students' personal
technology is available. Students experiencing Internet connectivity problems
in the residence halls can request assistance from the Office of Information
Technology (OIT) Help Desk at (909) 593-3511 ext. 4130. If a student's
operating system is having problems with viruses or malware, a Residence Hall
Technician can be requested for trouble-shooting assistance via the OIT Help
Desk at ext. 4130.
Will I get an e-mail account?
Yes. All students are automatically assigned
a University of La Verne e-mail account upon registering for their
first class.
Can I access library materials online?
Yes. Students can access the library catalog, connect to
databases, renew books and contact a librarian online.
What are the requirements for a transfer student?
A transfer student will need at least 28 college semester
units, including college math and college English.
Does La Verne look at high school grades or SAT scores
for transfer students?
No. However, students with less than 28 college
semester units are required to submit high school grades and test scores.
What general education plans does La Verne accept?
La Verne fully accepts CSU, UC and IGETC general
education plans.
Are there scholarships available for transfer students?
Yes, there are transfer scholarships that are based on
academic performance and can be available up to $9,000 per year.
