The heat wave that hit Southern California this week kept the University of La Verne sweating.

ULV participated in non-conference matches this week to prepare them for Southern California Intercollegiate Conference (SCIAC) play.

Matches began on Saturday with a loss at Chapman 5-2. The No. 2 singles player, Kiran Asola came up with a 6-1, 6-0 win and the Number three, Jarrod Hesler won 7-6 (2), 6-1.

"Jarrod Hesler had a great win at Chapman," said ULV coach Steve Bergevoy.

ULV came out strong against University of Wisconsin Eau Claire on Monday.

The talented No. 1 doubles team consisting of captains Josh Horwitz and Chad Rodriguez defeated UWEC easily, 8-4. The No. 2 doubles team consisting of Kiran Asola and Jason Cortez had a repeat performance of the No. 1 team defeating UWEC, 8-1.

The singles teams did not have the same effect on UWEC as the doubles. The No. 2 singles player Chad Rodriguez was the only singles player to come out with a win 7-6 (5), 6-0.

"It's hard for us to play in this weather, but Wisconsin should really have the disadvantage," said junior Harold Arrellano.

The UWEC coach, Mitch Louis said, "I am happy with my team's performance. This heat is really getting to us, considering we've been covered in snow at home and this is our first match outdoors."

ULV was defeated 9-0 by the University of Wisconsin Osh Kosh on Wednesday.
