Lunging with a backhand volley, Mario Backes of the University of La Verne men’s tennis team approaches the net for a short shot from his opponent, William Ellison, of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in a rescheduled match Sunday. Ellison took the No. 2 singles match, 6-0, 6-2, as Claremont-Mudd-Scripps made a clean 7-0 sweep of the Leopards just before the rain resumed.
