Applications for positions in the Associated Students of the University of La Verne, formerly known as Associated Student Federation, have began circulating from the Office of Student Life, as the University looks to create a dynamic group that will bring leadership, structure and changes to campus life.
“Student government elections are an opportunity for students interested in service on campus and (making) positive changes,” Director of Student Life Chip West said.
“Currently there is nobody in these positions, so students have a wide open opportunity,” West added.
“We need a group that is passionate about making this campus better and a diverse group academically, ethnically, athletically, Greek and with experience,” he added.
In the past, the University of La Verne student government has not used its full potential or power to make change. If motivated, ASULV can affect change in food services, cost of attendance and parking, as well as a variety of other topics that will improve student life on campus.
While the student government is now expected to produce changes on campus, they will now be paid for their services between $1,500-$2,000 dependent upon the position held.
Positions available for the upcoming elections include: president and executive vice president (which must run on a ticket together), as well as an individual senator for the College of Arts and Science, the School of Education and Organizational Leadership and the College of Business and Public Management.
All applications must be submitted to the Office of Student Life by noon on March 31. Prospective candidates must have and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above to be eligible to run or continue to hold office.
There will also be a mandatory meeting to discuss the elections at 10 p.m. on April 3 in the West Dining Hall and campaigning will begin at 8 a.m. on April 4.
The elections begin April 18 and run through April 20.
The Office of Student Life encourages all students with a strong vision, who fit the requirements, to step up and make a difference in campus life.
