Ashley Rodriguez, Minerva Garcia, AnnMarie Francis, Michelle Akahoshi, Korynn Frelow, Kristina Granados and Ami Smith gathered in Davenport Dining Hall on March 25 to eat nachos and participate in the karaoke event.
Davenport Dining Hall was a scene of musical symphony on March 25 when the Campus Activity Board hosted Karaoke Night.
The event scheduled at 10 p.m. actually started at 10:30 p.m. because people showed up late.
Evelyn Castro, the special events chairwoman was in charge of putting the event together. Along with the singing and dancing, there was a “make your own nachos” table, where nachos were served. The night was titled “Na-cho Same Ol’ Song.”
Most of those present were women from the Phi Sigma Sigma sorority. Since only about nine men showed up, it turned out to be a girls night and no one seemed to be fazed.
Roxanne Garcia, a sophomore accounting major in Phi Sigma Sigma was there to enjoy the nachos.
“I’m on the special events CAB committee and I love nachos. I just had a plate and they were good. I may sing later on if there’s a group,” Garcia said.
As more and more people showed up, Garcia did sing. She sang “Barbie Girl” by Aqua along with many of her sorority sisters.
Another Phi Sigma Sigma member, AnnMarie Francis a junior business administration major, sang “Spice Up Your Life” by the Spice Girls. It was the first song of the night.
“It’s a little late to eat nachos but I am tempted,” said Francis.
More and more women got the courage to sing, and many got up in groups of five or more to sing together.
“Pretty Young Thing” by Michael Jackson was a song that many women got up to sing but others were happy by just watching.
“I’ll sing but later on, much later. Right now I’m having too much fun listening to the other girls sing,” Michelle Akahoshi, a sophomore psychology major in Phi Sigma Sigma, said.
“It’s really funny to see them sing, I can’t stop laughing,” Akahoshi added.
“This night was really fun, I enjoyed watching others sing and I got the courage to go up there and sing. I hope there are more events like this,” Garcia said.
