Posted May 8, 2009

The La Verne softball team dropped its first game of the NCAA regionals to Louisiana College on Thursday at East Texas Baptist University.

The game went into extra innings after La Verne scored in the late innings to tie the game 3-3. However, Louisiana scored a run in the ninth inning to secure the victory, 4-3.

The Leopards concluded its season May 2 with a 3-2 loss in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in 13 innings.

However, its overall record of 28-15 and second place standings in the SCIAC (16-8) was enough for the women to compete with seven other teams in the regionals.

The SCIAC is well represented in the tournament, Redlands and Claremont-M-S both earned bids.

Earlier in the week seven members of the softball team were selected to the 2009 All-SCIAC team.

Melissa Carlson was apart of that list as well as earning SCIAC Player of the Year.

Lynsey Padillo, Ashley Paul, Diandra Burns and Tara Allis earned First Team All-SCIAC honors.

Ashley Meneely and Delaney Baylor were named to the Second-Team.
