Screenings show off fresh talent

Two video screenings will showcase the work of some communications students from the University of La Verne this weekend.

Students from various video production classes throughout the year will present their best work in a collection of dramas, commercials, documentaries, news stories and experimental videos at 3 p.m. Saturday in room 212 of the Arts and Communications Building. The screenings will include complete and partial videos produced by the students.

Senior television broadcast majors and senior broadcast journalism students will showcase their senior projects at 7 p.m. Saturday in La Fetra Auditorium. The video screening will include excerpts from a variety of projects including a morning news show, documentaries, a sketch comedy show and promotional pieces.

“The work of seniors continues to improve every year,” said Don Pollock, professor of communications. “It’s important to give an opportunity for them to show their work in a bigger forum.”

In the future, Pollock hopes to present a larger screening in a Los Angeles theater, where agents and production companies can view the work.

With many editing programs moving to the convenience of computer desktops, more students are able to access the programs easily. The University has been supportive in funding these kinds of programs for the department.

“It’s made a huge difference for our students to be able to compete with other students from bigger schools with bigger budgets and more equipment,” Pollock said.

Both screenings are free and open to the public. For more information call Shane Rodrigues at (909) 593-3511, Ext. 4275.
