During what Dennis Maxwell calls “preventative maintenance,” an accident caused a flood in Miller Hall. Maxwell was trying to change a diaphragm and disk to prevent leaks in the original installation when the flush valve and angle stop came off. “I moved fast. I didn’t get wet,” said a surprised Maxwell who has been working for the maintenance crew at the University of La Verne for 18 years. Maxwell later fixed the pipes with solder and flux, required for the solder to stick, When the building was first opened, a similar leak occurred, owing to poor installation procedures by the contractor responsible for remodeling the building.
