(Top): In a fund raising effort for the Citrus College Women's Ensemble, senior Renee Soliz painted jeans in a tribute to the victims of Sept. 11. Soliz was at the Rock Wednesday afternoon, joining the ULV community for music, tributes and a reading of all the names of the victims. The event was led by President Stephen Morgan, while music was performed by Steve Kinzie and the ULV choir. People were encouraged to write letters to New York that will be sent in bulk. The event continued until 4 p.m., when the last names of victims were read.
(Bottom): On Wednesday morning, members of the La Verne community
gathered to dedicate a Sept. 11 memorial that now sits on the corner of
Third Street and C Street. Julie White, La Verne resident, was asked to
help pass out flyers about the city commemoration, which included a choir
performance of "God Bless America" by the Ramona Middle School
Choir. White, whose son sang in the choir, said of the memorial, "It
is beautiful, it's a nice tribute." The memorial was placed on behalf
of Bill Aguirre, director of parks and community services and the city of
La Verne. The memorial was sponsored by the city of La Verne as well.
