The University of La Verne has a men's tennis team that is filled with
hopes for the 1998 season, but on Feb. 13 those hopes were crushed for a
day when Claremont-Mudd-Scripps came to La Verne and swept the Leopards,
7-0.
In the first match of the day, senior Sergio Velazquez won the opening
set 6-3 but then lost the final two sets, 6-1 and 6-0.
The rest of the Leopards lost in straight sets and only junior David
Dang got as close as 6-4.
The Leopards did not fair well in the doubles brackett either. They
lost in straight sets in all three of the matches and none of the Leopards
doubles teams got closer than two points.
The Leopards travel to Chapman today. Match play starts at 2 p.m. ULV
hosts Chapman tomorrow at 9:30 a.m.
