Matthew Witt, Ph.D., is associate professor at the University of La Verne. He teaches courses in public administration theory, integrative ethical leadership, research foundations and managing sustainable communities. Dr. Witt has published in leading public administration journals examining how race and racism shape and are shaped by public administration institutions and practices. He has published on state crimes against democracy (SCADs), serving as lead editor for symposium appearing in American Behavioral Scientist in May, 2010. Dr. Witt led a design team including La Verne Honors program art history students and faculty through the semifinal round of the National Ideas Competition for the Washington Monument. Dr. Witt will present paper examining the Occupy Movement and police paramilitary responses across the United States at the Annual Meeting of the American Society of Public Administration in Las Vegas, March 2-6, 2012. Among various long term projects aimed at civic engagement and restoration, Dr. Witt has initiated an internet-based project, The People Run, that will host video contests and ideas competition for restoring hope and confidence in federal governing institutions.
