- Dr. Broussard grew up in a small town in Louisiana called St. Martinville. Her experience growing up in poverty cultivated a deep appreciation for the power of education to change lives. She had only to look at her own family to see how difficult life could be when one had just a high school diploma. The struggles of her family and the encouragement of her high school teachers convinced her that education was the key to empowerment. She became the first person in her extended family to attend college and earn an undergraduate degree, and the only one to earn an advanced degree. As a professor of biology at ULV, she believes her job is to empower her students with knowledge, to encourage and mentor them in their scholarly pursuits, and to help them develop a sense of how they can make the world a better place.
