Prior to coming to the University of La Verne, Professor Allen served as a teacher, counselor, and school psychologist for over thirty years in California public school districts. Dr. Allen is a licensed Marriage Family Therapist, a National Certified Counselor and National Certified School Counselor, and a certified educational neuropsychologist. She wrote the program documents for the University of La Verne's School Psychology Credential. Most recently she was the Education Programs Consultant for School Counseling and School Psychology at the California Department of Education.
Dr. Allen is currently editor of The California School Counselor newsmagazine and CASC Electronic Journal, and on the board of the California Coalition for Counselor Licensure. She served as President of the American School Counselor Association, President of the California Association for Counseling and Development, President of the California School Counselor Association, and Chair of the California Alliance for Pupil Service Organizations. She has authored and coauthored numerous documents and articles including the AB 722 Report-- AB 722 Study of Pupil Personnel Ratios, Programs, and Services and edited the popular text Empowering the 21st Century Professional School Counselor.
Dr. Allen has been honored by the H.B. McDaniel Foundation with the Individual Award and induction into the H.B. McDaniel Hall of Fame and by the Pupil Services Coalition for her work in counseling and advocacy for student support services.
