Dr. Gerard Lavatori is a Professor of French and Director of the Honors Program. His teaching interests include the West African francophone novel, women in French language film and fiction, French Renaissance literature, Second Language teaching methods, French language teaching, and the literature of Quebec. His doctoral dissertation on literature and economics in sixteenth-century France, Language and Money in Rabelais, was published with Peter Lang in 1996. His more recent research projects involve studies of representations of reading in the novels of the Senegalese writer and film maker, Ousmane Sembène. In his free time, Dr. Lavatori is an amateur oboe and woodwind player who performs occasionally with local community musical groups.
