Legislative Issues Affecting Higher Education Today
In an effort to keep the University community informed and current on legislative issues that affect information security in higher education, the Information Security Governance Committee (ISGC) has come up with this Legislative Issues Watch List that will be updated semi-annually. It is important for all of us at the University to aid the ISGC by doing our part in keeping Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and Personal Health Information (PHI) confidential.
- Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
- Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA)
- Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH Act)

- Identity Theft Red Flags Rule
- California Identity Theft and Personal Information Protection Act
